Rylie's Poodle Skirt

Rylie had so much fun making this skirt. I loved seeing her creative side come out when she was working on the poodle. She made the poodle from scratch. She used minky for the pink fluffy poodle fur put a pom pom on for the nose then topped it off with a bow. I love how it turned out. You can't tell but this has a zipper on the side. Rylie was nervous about putting in her first zipper but she did it beautifully! Way to sew! She is going to model this in the fashion show at the AZ State Fair in a few weeks. She originally made it to wear at a sock hop at school. She looks fabulous!

Homemade Laundry Soap

I have wanted to make my own laundry detergent for a while now. I have had the ingredients but never got around to it until I ran out and had too! (Not a good thing in a house with 8 kids!) My friend had given me the recipe to make it. It was so simple! Jut 3 ingredients, mix them together and you have your own homemade laundry detergent. Finely grate 1 bar of Zote soap. I found it at Wal-Mart in the laundry aisle for about $.97 (My daughter had just got down the Halloween costumes and decided to help me. Her pic was so much cuter than the one of me!) Place 1 bar of finely grated Zote soap in a bowl. Combine 1/2 C. of Arm & Hammer Washing Soda , (I found this at my grocery store for about $2.98) and 1/2 C. Borax Mix well. The best part is you only have to use 1 TBSP. It is great for HE washers and safe for your babies laundry. Not to mention the cost per load is about $.05! Amazing!! I have done several loads and have been happy with the results so far.

My New Addition!

I have a new baby!! I am in heaven! 7 week old preemie weighing 5 1/2 lbs. Those of you that know me, know that I have been a foster parent for special needs kids for 16 years. It has always been a passion of mine to care for kids that have special needs. I love the challenge of taking in a child (mostly babies) and helping them grow and overcome challenges. They bring such a sweet spirit into your home. I have always been a baby freak. I have to hold back and resist the temptation to ask to hold strangers babies. ( Don't worry I haven't ever really asked!) I know it's weird but they are so tiny and cute! I just love them!! Even though I am seriously sleep deprived, I am in love!! Sadly for me, my sweet baby has left. I never know how long I am going to have a child. I have a little boy that has been a part of our family for 4 1/2 years. I only got to love on this little one for 3 weeks. He will be in our prayers as he starts his new life.

Ruffled Shirt To Skirt

I got this ruffled shirt at a benefit rummage sale. As soon as I saw it I knew I was going to make a skirt out of it. My daughter Emily was with me and she said that I was a little too excited when I picked it up. What can I say...this is about as exciting as my life gets! I cut off the top and got to work. I folded over the top to create the casing for the elastic. Sewed the casing leaving an opening for the elastic. Then threaded the elastic through. Voila! A new skirt to wear to church tomorrow! I love it! You would never know it used to be a size 14/16 ruffled shirt. It will be our secret! :)

Getting Organized

It's time. I have needed to do this for so long! I am finally going to organize my scrap fabric. I have thought about it and wanted to get it done but it has always been pushed down on the to do list. That is until Noreen came over... Noreen is a mom of one of my students. She stayed while I taught her daughter. Noreen and I have something in common...we both can't sit still. I hate to do nothing! So while I taught she so generously helped me fold 4 boxes of fabric scraps and color co-ordinate them into 2 boxes! Thank you Noreen!! I so appreciate the help. A nice, neat pile of brown fabric scraps. I am doing the happy dance! I even made a labels for these so I would know what they were without having to search. It just makes me happy :) Now...what to do with all these fabric scraps? I have a few ideas...any suggestions?

Brighton's New Dress

Brighton has been working on this dress for the past few weeks. I am so proud of her. She made several modifications to the pattern to make it the way she wanted it. Brighton is planning on modeling this in the fashion show at the Az State Fair in Oct. She has won 1st place in the fashion show before. She knows how to work it!! She made a bag and headband out of the same fabric. She also wants to decorate her flip flops with it. Way to go! You are amazing Brighton! I love it!!

Duct Tape Creations

Nicole has a gift for making things out of duct tape. She created this bag out of duct tape. Isn't it so cute?! I love this bag. I would totally use this! She covered her water bottle in duct tape. She made a dress that she modeled in the Az State Fair & won 1st place, as well as several wallets and purses too. You are so talented Nicole!! This year for the Az State Fair she has entered a duct tape contest. How fun! I can't wait to see what she makes next.
